Our Mission

At the Center we understand the growing national need for statistics experts with unparalleled analytical skills and dedicate our curriculum to preparing students for their role in a post-graduate world revolving around the power of big data, as well as conducting research on effective methods in statistics and data science instruction and pedagogy. Our research is dedicated to promoting statistics education nationally and building a base of mentors who are committed to helping push a much-needed ever-evolving data agenda at community colleges nationwide.

Our History

Michael Posner, PhD, PStat®, founded Villanova’s Center for Statistics Education in 2013, officially known today as the Center for Statistics and Data Science Education. During his time at Villanova, Dr. Posner has helped solidify Villanova’s growing reputation as a national leader in statistics education through his work to create new learning opportunities and enhanced statistics curricula for Villanova students as well as provide much-needed resources for teachers throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond. Dr. Posner’s research, including a focus on student attitudes toward statistics, has been published in both the Statistics Education Research Journal and the Journal for Statistics Education (now the Journal for Statistics and Data Science Education)—the two flagship journals in the field.
