Tina Agustiady, an instructor for Villanova’s online Six Sigma program, is a Six Sigma expert who quite literally, “wrote the book” on the subject, several books in fact. Her most recent book, “Design for Six Sigma: A Practical Approach through Innovation,” focuses on innovative and systematic continuous improvement in product, process and service design through an integrated lean and Six Sigma methodology to achieve robust design. Along with co-author, Elizabeth A. Cudney from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Agustiady received the coveted Crosby Medal, which is an American Society for Quality (ASQ) award given to an individual(s) who has authored a distinguished book contributing significantly to the extension of the philosophy and application of the principles, methods, or techniques of quality management.

In addition to the Crosby Medal, Agustiady also received the Feigenbaum medal from ASQ in 2016, presented to an individual who is 35 years of age or younger who has displayed outstanding characteristics of leadership, professionalism, and potential in the field of quality and also whose work has been or, will become of distinct benefit to mankind.

A graduate of Ohio University in industrial engineering, Agustiady went on to earn multiple six sigma certifications over the years and is now a Certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, the highest designation and proof of expertise in the field. She has been teaching in Villanova University’s online Six Sigma program for three years and helped re-develop and improve multiple courses, including Lean Six Sigma, Six Sigma Green Belt, Six Sigma Black Belt and Design for Six Sigma. Though Agustiady also runs her own consulting company, her passion is teaching. “My students are incredible. They make the online interactive classes engaging, thought provoking, and truly enjoyable even for me as the instructor. I encourage questions and feedback, and I’ve found that my students stay in touch long after their course or program is over. I’ve also seen my students network with each other to solve problems in their respective careers and to bounce ideas off of one another. The best feedback I’ve received about my courses is that they aren’t just live lectures, they are opportunities for meaningful discussion and a continuation of ideation in an environment that facilitates that.”

Due to Agustiady’s track record as an expert in the field and as an author, she was asked to start a book series titled “Continuous Improvement.” Seven writers so far have authored under the Continuous Improvement series umbrella, and she was recently asked to begin another series focused on Lean Innovation and Management. These book series are designed to be used by practicing Six Sigma professionals, as well as for courses teaching the concepts.
