College of Professional Studies Recognizes Student Achievements at Second Annual Awards Ceremony

2017 CPS Awards

On Friday, May 5, the College of Professional Studies (CPS) hosted the second annual Awards Ceremony. Students and their families, as well as Villanova University President Father Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, Dean Deborah Tyksinski, PhD and faculty and staff, came together to celebrate the success of CPS students during the 2016-2017 academic year. The evening recognized the achievements of Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society inductees, Paralegal Certificate graduates and student award-winners.

“The CPS students who we recognized at this year’s Awards Ceremony have excelled academically, while in many cases also balancing the many demands of family obligations and job responsibilities,” said Dean Tyksinski. “I admire their drive and determination to accomplish their academic goals. These students carved time out of their busy lives to invest in themselves and make their education a priority.”

Eight CPS students and were inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, an honor society which celebrates the scholarship and leadership of adult students, and is devoted to the advancement of nontraditional students continuing their education. The newly inducted Alpha Sigma Lambda members are high achievers whose grade point averages are in the top 20% of their class. Two CPS faculty members were also inducted as honorary members.

Fifty-two Paralegal Certificate students successfully completed their coursework during the 2016-2017 academic year. During the Awards Ceremony, graduates were recognized and presented with their certificates, and students Michael Lentz, Angela Loche, Deborah Rubino and Hannah Sayenwere were honored with the Academic Excellence Award for their outstanding academic achievements. The Paralegal Certificate is an ABA-approved 15-course program that emphasizes legal principles, theories, paralegal procedures and on-the-job practices.
